Community annotation of rice gene families are provided by members of the rice community who have curated rice gene families and submitted their functional and/or structural annotation to TIGR. The community annotations are displayed at the Community Annotation of Rice Gene Families page and also can be viewed along our the TIGR Annotation as a track in the Rice Genome Browser.
TIGR provides a web based Community Annotation Tool to allow the rice community to submit their functional and structural annotation in an simple web tool. The community annotation web tool is summarized below.
If you would like to submit community annotation, please sign up here. If you have any questions, please email rice@tigr.org or use the comment box on the Contact Us page.

Gene Family Selection Page
After you log in, the gene family selection page displays the gene families you have registered to annotate. Select one and click the 'annotate' button to proceed to the functional annotation tool.

Functional Annotation Tool
The function annotation tool allows you to find the TIGR rice locus for your gene and assign a gene name and description. Additional functional annotation such as source, criteria, comments, and accessions can also be entered, There are also links to display the locus in the TIGR Rice Genome Browser and display the locus report in Manatee.

Structural Annotation Tool
Using the TIGR gene model as a starting point, the structural annotation tool
allows you enter your structure for the gene model. The tool allows you change add and delete exons and change the position of the UTRs if presend. Each change can be viewed in relation to the TIGR gene model and full length cDNA and rice transcript assembly alignments. The cDNA and protein sequences for your model are also updated as you make changes to help you confirm you have entered the structure correctly.

If your gene family has a large number of members, you may wish to provide your community annotation as a text file or excel file. Please register first as a community annotator before sending your file of community annotation, so we can set up a database account for you.
